Hi Moroz1999, I'd really like to add an alternative to the autogenerated MP3, as ZX Tune always does horrid things to the white noise. Is there any way it could be made possible to replace the MP3 that is generated on upload?
pyramex_of_hate 05.06.2025 12:08
Or alternatively, to be able to change the prod type to MP3 after the fact, and reupload.

Hah. Forget it - finally worked out you can just use an MP3 as the source :-)

Might want to update the help text?

The MP3 support is actually an unintended feature :) Currently it's an ok solution, but I will have to investigate it further:
1. I think I could legalize "proper" MP3 files using some separated field for them, just to exclude MP3 files from API clients which don't support it.
2. May be I would try different versions of ZXTune and/or some other CLI-based player for Sam, if anything other exists at all.

It's interesting that the WAV files from Simcoupe, fed through Audacity's MP3 export (not sure what library that uses) end up smaller than the current solution.

Not sure that's actually the issue though - Dave Hooper's SAASound (https://github.com/stripwax/SAASound) does a pretty much perfect job - but then perhaps ZXTune is using an old/alternative implementation?

There is also an old version of ZXTune in usage on ZX-Art, because newer versions had some limitations for custom int frequencies or something like that. So may be just using updated version for .COP files would do the job, but I need to try it first.

Cool - let me know if you need my ears for comparison :-)

I'm guessing it's just an implementation issue - I've never used PerfectZX, but my guess is it's just not as accurate as SAASound :-(

Either way - the current method works fine once you know it exists :-)
