Strategy Game Sherwood: Become Robin Hood and Fight for Justice

Sherwood is a strategy-action game inspired by the legend of the famous English outlaw, Robin Hood. Set in the year 1148, the game follows Robin of Locksley as he returns to England after escaping captivity in Jerusalem. During his absence, Prince John has treacherously seized the throne, and Robin finds his home destroyed and his father dead, killed by the soldiers of the Sheriff of Nottingham for refusing to betray King Richard.

In Sherwood Forest, Robin, along with his childhood friend Much, becomes an outlaw. The forest spirit, Hern, tells Robin to liberate the land from Norman oppressors using a magical bow and to find a mystical silver arrow. The game combines strategic and action elements, with the current situation displayed on a map of England. Players must liberate territories from enemies like the Sheriff of Nottingham, Abbot Hugo, and Baron Fitz-Alwin.

The gameplay involves alternating between strategic menu navigation and action sequences, such as archery and sword fighting. Players can buy and distribute weapons, and the goal is to defeat all enemies, rescue Lady Marian, and find the silver arrow, all within 60 days. The game allows for up to 219 points, and tips include using arrows in skirmishes and eavesdropping in taverns for crucial information.

Developed by DSA Computer Graphics and published by Ultrasoft, Sherwood is available on ZX Spectrum 128K and 48K. The game supports various joystick interfaces and offers a unique blend of strategy and action, challenging players to navigate the legendary tale of Robin Hood with skill and strategy.
