Action Shooter Game Black Star for ZX Spectrum

Black Star is a fixed shooter game developed for the BitBitJam 2015. The game is set in the solar system of the Kingdom of Heavens, which has been peaceful for millennia. However, this tranquility is disrupted by the appearance of a wormhole leading to a dying system.

The core theme revolves around the classic confrontation between good and evil, represented by two factions battling for dominance. Players control the battleship class Black Star, tasked with defending the kingdom against an invading horde.

The game targets the ZX Spectrum 48k platform, utilizing its limited resources to deliver a nostalgic gaming experience. It supports keyboard and joystick controls, allowing players to redefine keys for better accessibility.

The main goal of the jam was to encourage code sharing to support old machines. Despite time constraints, the developer, Juan J. Martinez, ensured the code was well-commented. The loading screen features artwork based on Angelo Nero's "rainbow wormhole."
