The Hobbit is a text adventure game with graphics developed by Beam Software and published by Melbourne House in 1982. The game is based on J.R.R. Tolkien's famous fantasy novel and puts players in the role of Bilbo, the hobbit. As Bilbo, players can freely explore Middle Earth, encountering various creatures and facing dangerous challenges. The objective of the game is to retrieve the treasure from the dragon and place it in a chest for safekeeping. The game features a text-based interface and commands are entered using the keyboard. The Hobbit is considered one of the most sophisticated game programs for microcomputers.
