V. U. M. L. - the story of life and cool partying
Our publication has recently started to move away from purely computer themes. An example of this is the "Partying" section, which has become, so to speak, cult. Therefore, from this issue, we decided to create a new column that will cover aspects of the life and creativity of extreme musicians from Rybinsk. Today, I have Marat and Demon as guests - the founders of the well-known (in narrow circles) band "Disgust" (not to be confused with the well-known foreign one). I will be asking the questions - Chasm (C.), and my guests will be answering, respectively, Marat (M.) and Demon (D.).
C. Let's start with what you are doing now. As far as I know, your creativity has gone in a somewhat different direction compared to what you were doing four years ago.
D. Four years ago, we were somewhat behind the professional level, that is, I wanted to say that you didn't understand me at all... Well, in general, over the past four years, our level in terms of playing technique has significantly improved, and therefore we started playing more serious music...
C. By the way, for those unfamiliar with your music, it would be interesting to know what style you played?
M. Something, you know, simple death.
D. By the way, do you remember that you wrote a couple of lyrics for us?
C. Got it!
D. If possible, I would like to see a couple of lines here.
C. You asked - we do:
3. You enter the shop
And load your gun
Shoot at people
It's time for fun!
On floor are mix
Tomato juice and blood
On walls you see
Human brain and food.
4. Screaming people
And running cops
Roaring hooters
And children corpse
Scream on theirs lips
Pain in theirs eyes
But you isn't care
In your mind paradise.
Refrain: Wish, wish, wish to kill
Intolerable pain
You fell inside brain.
Wish, wish, wish to kill
It like to speel
It impel to kill.
C. Yeah... I was pushing some gloomy textures back then. Well, let's continue.
D. Let's return to the question. All this was at first, then we became interested in a section of extreme music called Grindcore. And this happened practically in the same lineup, we only changed the bassist.
M. The bassist has always been unsatisfactory to us (in terms of playing technique), however, we achieved decent results and played quite well with Senya (drums), but later we had to part ways with him.
D. Ha! (three times) Because of the baby.
C. Well, you played death and Grind, what style do you enjoy now?
D. In what sense? What we listen to, or what we play?
C. Let's start with the first.
M. Diverse, within reason.
C. Like?
M. Let's start with the fact that the Soviet style is completely excluded, due to obvious imitation of the West - "No Doubt", Tony Braxton, etc.
D. Regarding imitation, I agree, but I mainly listen to "Internal Bleeding", "Suffocation", as well as "Scorn" and the like.
C. And what do you play yourself?
M. Barbarity - actually, there is no such style as it is.
D. And why not, after all, we live on the land of barbarians. But still - this is music in terms of the aforementioned favorite bands of mine.
M. Of course, we can be accused of the same imitation of the West, but pay attention to the phrase "in terms of". This word corresponds only to style, and not to playing manner.
C. By the way, Demon said here that he loves "Scorn". What is your attitude towards electronic music?
D. I have nothing against electronic music, because sooner or later the computer will take its toll: after all, the industrial revolution breaks all stereotypes of primitive existence, in particular, music.
M. I am fully in favor, responding to the previous provocation. I don't think we should confront the achievements of civilization, but rather - we should use them for self-expression. That is, use sampled sound mixed with live.
D. And I am for using the computer exclusively for quality processing and recording of live sound. After all, live music is the expression of the very essence of the individual. After all, I try to make music that excites me at the moment, while electronic stuff, first of all, is the construction of the fabric of the composition.
C. Let's return to heavy music. For example, Sepultura once widely used ethnic elements in their work. Are you excited by truly Russian (non-Christian) roots (rrroots) in art?
M. No.
D. I completely disagree, it excites me personally and not just me. Once Prince Vladimir, with his wife Olga, began to destroy pagan culture and convert Slavs to the Jew-Christian faith by fire and sword - for this crap, I am very upset and I would like the traditions of our ancestors to be revived again. In due time, Prince Yaroslav the Wise once went out to party and drink. While drinking, he most likely killed a Bear on free Russian land and built a settlement on this spot, later named after him. Just so you know, the Bear is the earthly symbol of our land and his name is VELES. Hmm... It turns out to be tautology, but that's how it is.
M. Glory (Demon) - a local aborigine.
C. Marat, where are you from?
M. My mom is local, and my dad is an Indian. Well, that's a joke. To be honest, I am of Bashkir nationality, but was born and raised in Fishburg (Rybinsk).
C. Cool!!! Let's step away from the musical theme for a while and touch on just those topics that strike you in life.
M. There is little that excites me in this life. However, there are things that make my existence less mundane.
C. For example, what?
M. I want to express my admiration for the creators of various plant and synthetic substances that open doors for a person to other boundaries of perception of this shitty world, although the first excite me more.
C. So your creativity is largely based on narcotic discoveries?
M. Perhaps so, but still, getting high is also a good thing in terms of working on technique.
C. Well, what does Demon think about this?
D. About what exactly? Regarding life: besides synthetic and natural substances, I enjoy a good party with people who can understand me in this regard, as well as communication with the opposite sex. Regarding the influence of drugs on our creativity... What can I say... When my subconscious is in other worlds... The lyrics become much deeper.
C. By the way, in the title of this interview, there was an unclear abbreviation "V. U. M. L." - what does it mean?
D. Once in a cold winter season... We, that is - I, Marat, and the well-known in the music circles of our city Shutov, got high on weed and that evening created the society "Eternally Dead Young People". That's the whole story, those who can understand - will understand.
M. Perhaps you were touched by Demon's simplicity, but it's not that simple. Since the creation of the society, it has had a huge influence on us.
C. So your lifestyle is drugs + fuck = ottqkk?
D. Yes, but music comes first! And I think Marat agrees with me.
M. Of course, absolutely, that's right. One should not succumb to the green serpent if there is no brain...
C. By the way, what do you think about conceptual cinema, like "Dead Man", "Eraserhead" or "Naked Lunch"?
D. I can't say anything about these films because I haven't seen them, but personally, I get excited by films like: "Event Horizon", "In the Mouth of Madness", as well as documentary chronicles "Faces of Death".
M. "Dead Man", "Naked Lunch" - quite good films, even, one might say more. This genre makes you think. In general, I like films that leave a strong impression. But still, I am a Musician and suggest we return to the topic of music.
C. Yes... Let's return to this topic.
M. The most important thing, in my opinion, in good music, which I currently consider the aforementioned direction Barbarity, are the drums. Clarity in playing is achieved through the experience of the fecal machine gun or the usurper of six vaginal muscles, that is - the drummer (words of Sergey Shutov).
D. In my opinion, the main thing in music is harmony with dissonant vocals (for example, Kataklysm - a hardcore Canadian band).
M. I have a lot of respect for Canadians. In fact, Canadians are the most hardcore representatives of extreme music. For example: "Cryptopsy", "Kataklysm", and others.
D. They play well because it's cold there, just like it is here. Therefore, we should play no worse than they do.
C. I know that at the moment there has been a split in your band (that is, with those people you both played with until recently). What are your future creative plans?
D. Mainly, the disagreements occurred with me, it doesn't concern Marat much. But I want to change this lineup, mainly the bassist. I don't know what the guitarist thinks about this.
M. The drummer is a good guy, and I agree about the bassist. Rybinsk is a small town, there is a shortage of good musicians. Taking this opportunity, I ask normal people, normal musicians, with a normal view of music to respond.
C. By the way, for those interested in your creativity: do you have recordings that those who wish can listen to?
D. Yes, we have. We recorded in 1995 - death, in 1997 - Grind, but the recording is not at a professional level, since we did not sign a recording contract with anyone and did not have the opportunity to work on serious equipment, although the recording turned out quite train-like...
M. In the sense that our trains are the most train-like trains in the world... Well, you get what I mean.
C. A global question. So what do you really want from life?
D. Pleasure, partying, and just a gloomy and evil continuation of our creative life and a quick painless death, with a cry "Mom, give birth to me back!" (because life gives birth to death, and death gives birth to life). Therefore, I will be eternal - like GOD.
C. Oh! What will happen next?!
M. It doesn't matter what I want from life, because life is not death, while death is not life. There is no death, there is an understanding of life, there is an understanding of music, and it doesn't matter what music is, what matters is what satisfies you in life and what satisfies you in music. Let's not succumb to the influence of rules, but rather enjoy the beauty, God willing life, and if God doesn't will - death.
C. And in conclusion, just say what brings you pleasure and will bring you pleasure in life.
M. What excites me is what truly excites me, and as for what will excite me, I am not responsible. But that's not the question. Time is nothing, and at the same time - EVERYTHING.
D. As usual, everything that pleased me before will bring pleasure, and new things will also bring pleasure, because new things constantly appear. But the biggest pleasure for me comes from music (drugs and sex) and the like.
