PUBLISHED AS ADVERTISEMENT ───────────────────────────── Hello, dear editorial office of the magazine 'Спектрофон'. Writing to you from St. Petersburg is Nikolai Evgenyevich Fedorov, who, together with Mikhail Akimov, currently represents the studio 'Логрос'.
First, we want to say that we highly appreciate your work on the magazine and wish you success, health, and profit. Now to the point. The idea of the letter belongs to me; it is related to the fact that your magazine practically lacks information about our city and the new things that have appeared here, as well as about our programmers and their works. Therefore, I am asking you to dedicate part of the magazine to our city. I want to immediately point out that our studio does not claim leadership, but there is a great desire to raise the authority of our programmers, give them their due, and inspire them for new feats.
Now a little about the studio. 'Logros' was created by Sergei Loginov; if this information reaches him, let him rejoice that the studio is alive and working. From the old team, only Mikhail Akimov remains, who performs the main work of the studio and is its leader. In 1993, when the influx of new programs stopped, he did not lose heart and formed a new group. I took a similar path, although I was working with cassette versions. In 1994, we united, thereby increasing the volume of programs and the number of programmers, which improved the programs themselves and established an exchange of experience.
We are also not shy about working with high school students, helping them in theory and practice. The studio's work is oriented towards the 'Scorpion ZS-256' machine by Sergey Zonov (99% compatibility of programs), on which we test new programs and also work out new modifications of the machine.
As a result of this work, three disks with games using 256K RAM appeared (the games were modified from cool blocky ones and Russified), as well as a mouse interface. This version was developed by the 'CREATE SOFT' group specifically for Spectrum-compatible machines with identical system buses, such as KAY-256, SCORPION, PROFI, although connection is possible to any type of Spectrums. Authors: Romanov Maxim, Petrov Alexander. The price of the board as of April 1, 1995, is 28500 rubles (this is not a joke!). Any passive mouse can be used as a mouse, for example, from the 'Поиск' computer. Today, a support disk with system and gaming programs comes with the 'mouse.' There is also another disk with 'mouse' games for sale, and new programs are being prepared.
Among peripherals, today on the market, two devices can be noted - 'Light Gun' and 'Modem.' The latter is in high demand as it saves time and also provides access to city stations (BBS) for obtaining new programs and new information.
The studio also distributes gaming and system programs for various Spectrum-compatible computers. Today, in the studio's catalogs:
60 diskettes for 48K/128K 90 diskettes for 48K 50 system diskettes.
Now a few words about cassettes; today this is the most neglected type of service, many studios have closed or ceased working with cassettes, and this work is 'tricky' and labor-intensive.
However, I can proudly say that we are doing very large and successful work; already now, over two hundred cassettes with programs of various directions are on sale. Cassettes are written exclusively by themes, as it is easier to please the buyer. Some of the cassettes are selling like hotcakes, and new ones are simply in demand, as we are advertising new programs. Now I want to list the themes and the number of cassettes for them, in parentheses are the cassettes being prepared.
for 128K - 22(+3) adventures - 17 mazes - 10 Russified - 15(+2) educational - 8 based on books and descriptions - 18(5 books) soldiers - 9 military equipment - 2 marine - 2 airplanes, helicopters - 4 flight simulators - 4 police - 4 knights - 4 martial arts - 4 strategy - 8(+2) adventures - 6 business - 2(+1) space - 6(+1) astronauts - 2(+1) robots - 2 sports - 6(+1) for two - 5 with immortality - 5 erotic and gambling - 3 for children and guests - 6 system - 2(+3) car racing - 4 logical - 5 others - 10
Why did I write the list of themes? Because many Spectrums are lying somewhere on a shelf, bringing neither joy nor benefit, and they start buying new computers like 'DENDY,' believing that there is nothing new on cassettes, while 'DENDY' has beautiful, quickly launching toys, but excuse me, there is nothing for the soul and no opportunities for programming and education, and the new cartridge will cost as much as the 'DENDY' itself, while for that amount, you can buy half of our programs. People do not have much money as it is, many cannot afford to buy a disk drive with a controller. So do not be upset; there are programs for you.
As for program distributors, I want to point out one thing: we will not get far on hacking and stealing programs. Our studio has a clear line: new programs must be protected until a proper copyright law is in place in the country; otherwise, no author will work with us, so either work yourselves or suffer breaking the protection, or buy programs wholesale or acquire copyright.
Now about new programs and our programmers. I want to note that many have their studios, but they are our good friends and give us rights to distribute their programs. I will start with system programs; the authors will be signed as they wished. 1. 'Budget Family' Description attached. Author - Loginov Sergey.
2. Disk database 128K. In Russian, cataloger plus comments. Author - 'EVA'.
3. 'Mouse Studio version 2.01' Graphic editor with mouse support. Author - 'DEVID'.
4. 'Horoscope 1 and 2' Author - Gorbachev Andrei.
5. 'Database version 1.02' Description attached. Author - Gorbachev Andrei.
6. 'TDT COPY-128K' Copier Author - 'EVA'.
7. Author's disk for university students. Descriptions attached. Author - KAMIKADZE O.B.
8. Intelligent test. Author - 'DEVID'.
I would also like to note the following programmers:
- Izotin Sergey - Russification, programs for 256K and cassette versions.
- Romanov Maxim - programs for 256K.
- Alexandrov Roman - Russification.
- Lvov Oleg - system programs.
- Chukhnenkov Andrey - programs for 256K.
And also a good composer Mikhail (EXALOT), who has very seriously dealt with the music editor ASM and about whom Vyacheslav Mednonogov spoke very highly. For proposals, call (812)301-32-22. Now about games. The hit of 1994 was the game program 'DIZZY-X,' authored by Sergey Gorshkov, who in March 1995 delighted us with the continuation of his game 'DIZZY-Y.' According to our expert Pavel Emelyanov, the game is made so well that it even put him in a logical deadlock. The seriousness of the game can also be said by the fact that a contract was signed with the publishing house 'North-West' for its production.
The program was prepared for eight months. Prices without protection with copyright: DIZZY-X - 75$ and DIZZY-Y - 75$. By the way, Sergey had a birthday at the beginning of March, a milestone one, which we sincerely congratulate him on. The sale price of the disk or cassette with these games is - 2$. If you want to see 'DIZZY and AO 'MMM', then buy these programs. The game script has long been written; everything will depend on the financial return from the first 'DIZZY,' maybe Sergey will delight us with new programs.
In December 1994, the author Maxim brought us his strategic game - 'Amber Wars' in Russian, made in the style of 'Defender Of The Crown.' For acquiring copyright for distribution, please call (812)299-72-62. In early March, we received two programs 'Field of Wonders'; as far as I know, students of the St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University are preparing the third version of this wonderful game.
The studio 'SOFTLAND' provided us with its version of the game, and for 'SPECTROFON,' a demo version. What can be said about the game? It is made stylishly and qualitatively, with original (by the way, very similar to real) effects; it’s just a pity that there is no speech. The manufacturing studio promises to make a sequel. This game can be played with two or three players, with themes for various tastes: from children's to erotic, which makes it endless.
The second version is weaker; it came to us from afar, and we have no opportunity to negotiate with the author for its improvement. But it allows playing with two or three players and has 512 words. On the other hand, the graphics in the game are weak; the program is mainly written in BASIC, and a lot of graphics have been borrowed from other games. But it will suit children aged 8-14.
Now about the masterpiece that our good friend Vyacheslav Mednonogov presented to us. This is the game 'UFO - enemy unknown.' By the way, the music for the program was written by our composer Mikhail (EXALOT). The game is on two disks, entirely in Russian and, of course, with protection. The price is 4$ excluding the cost of disks. The program combines business, strategy, and arcade. I also want to say something nice about Vyacheslav and his brother, who 'stepped away' from the Spectrum. In fact, these are the first domestic programmers - these are the first domestic programs: 'Buratinо,' 'Tankodrom,' 'Durak,' as well as a whole series of educational and Russified programs. So, good luck to you, Slava!
We also released another program for specialists distributing cassette versions: Copier 'Long Copy.' TDT copier version 1.0 128K, TR DOS 5.01 and 5.03. Authors: Paul O'Melly, Michael.
A little more about the program itself: the length of the loaded block is 65280 bytes, two musical pauses (to distinguish your cassette by ear, and for those who do not have a tape length counter on their tape recorder), working with disk drives A and B of any kind, ten BASIC commands in the loader, programmable copier, program protection at will. These are the main features of the copier, although it has a rich service. Honestly, this copier is my old dream, and I am very glad that it has finally appeared. The estimated price is 10$.
You can find us in St. Petersburg at the market: metro station 'Avtovo,' then express bus or tram number 60 to Marshal Kazakov Ave., 40, stall number 21, from 10 AM to 2 PM. And on weekdays, metro station 'Petrogradskaya,' Karpovka River Embankment, house 5, from 9 AM to 6 PM (lunch from 2 PM to 3 PM). Warehouse - store from AО 'LenPoligrafmash.' You can contact us by phone (812)234-86-08 from 8 AM to 5 PM, except Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, asking for Mikhail Anatolyevich Akimov.
