We would like to present to you our development, the Oberon Creative Pack, consisting of two programs - ZX-WinWord and Sprite Cuter.

ZX-WinWord.

It all started about a year and a half ago when I found out that there is a program for the BK that somewhat resembles IBM's Word for Windows and allows you to create, for example, various posters, calendars (I saw one calendar myself - it's impressive). You can imagine how upset I was for the "motherland" - the good old Spectrum? This is the first reason. The second, more down-to-earth reason is that we started publishing our own magazine Oberon, and we needed some kind of instrumental program to combine text and graphics. And it would be good if it could color these texts. That's how the idea for the first ZXWinWord came about. I started working on it. Meanwhile, during the work on Oberon#1, it became clear that typing texts in one program, formatting in another, coloring in a third is very inconvenient. And my helpful imagination immediately suggested - why not create a full-fledged text editor that allows you to see and edit not just "bare" text, but text combined with graphics, and even in color?! Especially since at the same time many electronic magazines and newspapers began to appear. If the program turns out well, it will be a good support for the editorial offices of these magazines and newspapers. Let it be called ZX-Word, it turned out to be very similar to its IBM counterpart. Oh no. such a program already exists, how disappointing. Well, let it be ZX-WinWord. So be it. The external appearance, command set, and keys (i.e., user interface) were based on the program ZX/IBM Editor that we liked so much. This editor was good in every way except for one "but" - the text length is no more than 23Kb. So here is another "feature" of the future ZX-WinWord - the maximum text length should be as large as possible. For example, 48 kilobytes. You can also allocate about 32 kilobytes for graphics. Why not? The only drawback is that the program will not be able to work on computers with less than 48 Kb of memory. This is certainly disappointing, but how else to implement such volumes? The first version was ready by the fall of 1996. But, since at that time I still didn't know who, besides us, needed this editor and since during the development of the first version I pursued goals somewhat different from beautiful design and stunning speed. This was a beta version. While the first version began to spread across the country, I learned that this program was very much appreciated in Samara, and I started working on the next version. The first suggestions began to come in about what needed to be changed or added. First of all, the speed of some procedures was increased, more file operations were added. Some bugs were fixed. A year has passed. Now it is already autumn 1997. It has been almost a year since ZX-WinWord has been widely used in Samara. All texts for our magazine are typed and formatted in it. And the editor itself has already undergone significant changes. Now it is not just some utility, but a completely normal text editor that allows, for example, formatting texts, coloring them in all conceivable and inconceivable colors, changing the font in the text. And much more. And now, thanks to ZX-Format, you can also take a look at this editor. And perhaps, who knows, it might help you in some way. For example, if you want to publish your own newspaper or magazine. And if not, maybe you just want to color some text. Pages are flipped with the "TRUE VIDEO" and "INV.VIDEO" keys.

Sprite Cutter

Well, okay, some reader might say, I have WinWord, but how do I make sprites? It's very simple. Sprites are drawn in any graphic editor you have at hand, and then cut out from the resulting picture using this program. The very first version of this program was written long ago, around 1994. It was made by E. Milun (Paul Atrides) "for himself", i.e., it was non-commercial. And it represented a simple utility with a simple menu that allowed: loading images, cutting sprites from them, adding sprites to a table. When work on ZX-WinWord began, it became clear that it was necessary to create a completely new version. I took on this task. In the very latest version that you will find in the attachment, in addition to the "standard" functions (loading the screen, cutting sprites, viewing/deleting any sprite from the table) new ones have been implemented: the ability to cut sprites in different formats, not only for WinWord itself, but also for any programs you develop; scrolling the sprite (more precisely, its image) up, down, left, right; overlaying sprites on the screen from the table, and much more. Unfortunately, support for Kempston Mouse has not yet been implemented - I simply didn't have one. But it will be fixed in the next version.
