Buzz #16: Popular Software and Media in Kovrov

Hello, our beloved readers! For this issue of Buzz, I have prepared for you the Top NN software that is popular here in Kovrov. This section has not been present for a long time, and for some reason, there are no explanations for this fact. But now, when a whole bunch of software has accumulated that we all use with great pleasure, it was simply necessary to find out which of this pile we use most often and eagerly. To clarify this question, I conducted a quick survey of the speccy population of our city. There weren't as many respondents as I would have liked (only 9 people), but this number was enough to draw conclusions. Here is the list of those volunteers who agreed to fill out a special survey sheet:

SaiR00s/EI
D-Man/EI
Senat/EI
Demiurge Ash/EI
Crazy/EI
Spy/EI
Mongol/DC
Vel/PXM

and of course, myself. Tnx guys! The survey was conducted in the style of voting at the FT'98 party, i.e., each respondent was asked to write down 3 programs in each category, ranking them. 3 points were awarded for first place, 2 for second, and 1 for third. Voting was conducted in the following categories: GAMES, SYSTEMS, MAGAZINES & DEMOS. Here are the results of the survey.

GAMES:
-----
1. Operation R.R. - 12 points
2. A Last Hero Of The Light Force - 11 points
3. BLACK CROW - 9 points
4. Color Lines II \
BADLANDS \ - 3 points each
TETRIS II /
Grant Prix II /
5. TMOFL \ - 2 points each
Star Inheritance /
6. Puzzle \
Elite 3 > - 1 point each
Mirror /

Everyone probably thought that the time for dizzy-like games had passed, but not in Kovrov. As seen from the survey, it is precisely such a game called OPERATION R.R. by Galaxy that has captured the attention and time of almost all of us. Perhaps it deserves this - pleasant graphics, good music, an incredibly complex and interesting plot - what else do you need for a game to be liked? So, OPERATION R.R. is today in the first deserved place! In second place, we have another interesting and very well-made RPG game - A Last Hero Of The Light Force by Excess Team. Imagination, fantasy-style, an interesting plot, excellent graphics, action inserts, and cool digitals - this is what makes this game attractive. But it seems there are more quest fans in Kovrov than RPG enthusiasts, hence only 2nd place. In third place is the game - event of the year - BLACK CROW by Vyacheslav Mednonogov. I think there's no need to say anything here; it's clear to everyone. The game that brought a revolution to the world of game development deserves first place, but after many months since its release, it confidently holds third place.

SYSTEMS:
-------
1. Art Studio v2.01 - 12 points
2. STS v5.1 - 11 points
3. Alasm v3.8c - 9 points
4. XAS v9.06+ - 5 points
5. Hrust v1.0 - 4 points
6. PSC v1.03 \ - 3 points each
ZX-Asm v3.10 /
7. STORM v1.1 \
ZX-Word v2.5+ > - 2 points each
RDS v3.1 /
8. Jemmini Commander - 1 point

As it turns out, Kovrov is simply teeming with artists ;) Although this fact can be easily explained. Agree, no project can do without graphic design, and where is this best done? Of course, in Art Studio. Hence the leading first place. (Although for some, Art Studio is not just a tool for program design, but a means for creativity, a flight of thought and imagination. Fortunately, such people exist in our city). Just as no program can do without graphic design, it also can't do without bugs. STS has long established itself as one of the most essential programs. Probably, there is no person who hasn't had to use STS by Stalker. Moreover, STS is the best friend of hackers, and I suppose there are such people in Kovrov too... ;) Alasm v3.8c by Alem is one of the most popular assemblers at the moment. Its 3rd place is evidence of that. Fans of this assembler can be found in any city in Russia and even more so in the CIS countries. (However, I am not one of them.) Fast assembly speed, the TASM interface that everyone is so used to, many new and useful features, support for extended memory - these are just a few reasons explaining its popularity and 3rd place in our TOP NN.

MAGAZINES:
---------
1. Spectrum Expert - 17 points (!)
2. ZX-Format - 16 points
3. Deja Vu - 13 points
4. Adventurer - 7 points
5. ZX-Power - 1 point

The new, but already popular, St. Petersburg magazine Spectrum Expert is now resting on the laurels of the winner. The best text layout, a striking interface, pleasant animations, and, of course, interesting articles (which, by the way, can and should be made more) earned it first place in our chart. We all eagerly await the continuation of this wonderful publication from X-Trade. Just one point behind SE is the well-known monster among magazines, which has become the most popular in Russia and the CIS countries - ZX-Format by XL-Design. However, it had to make way and let the confidently emerging Spectrum Expert pass ahead. I hope the competition from their St. Petersburg colleagues will only benefit ZF, although in terms of texts, it is still more interesting than SE (but that's just my personal opinion). In third place is the already popular and gaining significant weight in the world of electronic publications, the magazine of the Kemerovo group PlayGear - Deja Vu. I don't know about others, but I like the interesting texts and excellent music in it, though I would like the interface to be better. However, the 3rd place is quite deserved.

DEMOS:
-----
1. The 5th Element - 19 points
2. Refresh - 15 points
3. Binary Love - 5 points
4. Forever - 4 points
5. Spirius - 3 points
6. Rage - 2 points
7. Yes \
NeverLand |
GOA > - 1 point each
Confusion |
Acid Revolution /

Here, perhaps, we will do without comments.

So, our chart has come to an end. Now you know which demos are liked by Kovrov spectrumists, which systems they use to write demos themselves, and what games they play while writing these very demos. Allow me to take my leave. C Ya!

Sincerely, Alexander
