EDITOR'S WORD

I congratulate you, dear readers, and you, dear programmers, on the release of the first issue of the electronic magazine for Sinclair enthusiasts "SPECTROFON".

We have only taken the first step towards each other and towards solving the complex task of making fuller use of the capabilities of the brilliant computer ZX-SPECTRUM, and to delve deeper into the programming masterpieces that have been created on and for it.

The computer that taught us to think, to understand the intricacies of programming, to comprehend this vast electronic world deserves a better fate than the one it has received in its homeland. Yes, we lag behind Western civilization, and someone might say that the time will come for us when the "ZX-SPECTRUM" will become a museum exhibit. This is true, but one cannot ignore the fact that in terms of hardware and software, our Russian Spectrum has stepped up one notch (or maybe not just one) compared to its English ancestor. Take a close look at the "PROFI" and "ATM-Turbo" machines. Are these models not a step forward? And the operating system IS-DOS?

In the land of fogs, they could never have imagined that in backward Russia, a quite modern operating system would be written for a museum exhibit, instantly turning the Spectrum into a microcomputer for the businessperson. Of course, the owner of a modern IBM-compatible machine will only smile at the optimistic musings about the Sinclair invention, but as they say: "To Caesar what is Caesar's, and to the locksmith what is the locksmith's."

Ninety percent of the population of Russia cannot afford an expensive machine. And it is not needed at all by those who are not in business. Owning an IBM just to play games is an unreasonable luxury by our, Russian, prices. When the people get rich, then...

Meanwhile, the Sinclair cause is alive and developing in our country. A new magazine has come out, tomorrow perhaps someone will release a crazy game that half the country will discuss. Our affairs are going well. As one political figure loved to say - "the process has begun", so let us work together. Let us not look anxiously to the West in hopes that some next latest gimmick will crawl to us. Let us write programs ourselves. I am confident that we can do it just as well, if not better than they can. Bright minds, there are many of you on our earth! Dare! May the little Speccy help you.

And our electronic magazine "SPECTROFON" will always be with you. We will try to assist everyone who is in love with their work. We will help promote your programs in the markets of the country, and we will strive to do this in a way that you will be satisfied with your work, receiving both moral and material rewards.
