Spectrofon #13: Overview of the 'SPECIAL FORCES' Game Announcement

ANNOUNCEMENT

SPECIAL FORCES

(C) STEP CREATIVE GROUP, 1995

Today we announce another game being developed by our creative team. We believe this will be a pleasant surprise for fans of military strategy games like "LASER SQUAD".

Introducing the authors:

Idea, script: Yuri Matveev

Codes: Fanatic Stas

Graphics: Dmitry Usmanov

For a long time, we were analyzing the extremely popular game "LASER SQUAD", trying to create a level editor, and making attempts to improve the game as a whole. At some point, after the already tiresome research of the brilliant "LASER SQUAD", the Idea was born, what do you think it was? Well, of course - to write our own, original game.

So, "SPECIAL FORCES" is a strategy game. The action takes place in the future. You are entrusted with the command of a combat special forces unit. You have at your disposal a squad of eight space marines who have undergone special training at one of the bases of the Interplanetary Terrorism Combat Administration.

The group's tasks include the elimination of dangerous terrorist groups, as well as alien aggressors, rebellious cyborgs, and other creatures that pose an exceptional threat to mankind.

Those who love games like "LASER SQUAD", "REBEL STAR" know the basic, so to speak, chess principle of these games. The game "SPECIAL FORCES" retains this principle. The main difference is that when you switch to controlling a character (one of the eight available soldiers), you see everything through his eyes.

Work is in full swing, and it's hard to say what the final product will be like. The game will include several mission scenarios, and a demo version, if it appears, will be published in our magazine. The game is also planned to introduce elements of non-deterministic (viral) games, but for now, we won't reveal all the secrets. We will keep you updated on the progress in the pages of the magazine.

And finally, another novelty that has appeared on the Russian software market. We will talk about the game "UFO. ENEMY UNKNOWN". The prototype is the game "UFO. ENEMY UNKNOWN", created by MICROPROSE for IBM-compatible machines. We present to you the author's description of this interesting program.
